A sound base for everyday outdoor use

Create a patio that connects properly
A patio has to do more than hold a table. It needs to meet the door at a safe level, connect with paths and send rainwater in the right direction. We plan patio laying in Witheridge around the space available, the intended use and the wider garden. Slab size, shape and joint pattern all influence how the finished area looks, but the preparation underneath matters just as much. We set out the area, excavate as required and build a stable sub-base before controlling the finished levels and falls. That gives the slabs sound support and water somewhere sensible to go.
Choose slabs with the whole garden in mind
We work with patio slabs and concrete slabs, discussing format, edging and the appearance you want to achieve. The sequence runs from preparation and setting out through laying, jointing and final checks. Nearby lawns, walls and pathways affect the result, particularly where there is a change in level or a narrow junction. We therefore check how the patio will meet each adjoining feature before committing to the layout. It is much easier to adjust a line on the ground than discover later that a gate clips the corner of a newly laid slab.

Frequently asked questions
What preparation does a new patio need?
Preparation normally includes setting out, excavation and construction of a suitable sub-base. We also establish finished levels and falls before laying. The exact depth and build-up depend on the ground, slab choice and intended use.
Can you connect the patio to an existing path?
Yes, provided the levels and condition allow a practical junction. We assess the existing path, nearby doors, lawn edges and drainage so the connection is comfortable to use and does not create an avoidable water trap.
How do we choose the patio slab layout?
We consider patio dimensions, slab format, joint pattern, edging and how many cuts the shape may require. Your preferred appearance matters, but we also keep access, runoff and connections with other garden features in view.
